About 2 weeks ago, Mark was combining in a muddy field. He backed up with the combine and pulled ahead quickly to get out of a mud hole. After combining for about 300 yards, Mark noticed on his yield monitor, that something was wrong. After getting out to investigate, he discovered the rock trap door under the combine was open. It must have happened while trying to get out of the mud hole. What was the result?? Lots and lots of ears on the ground : (
So, two weeks later in comes the ground crew to pick up the ears.....by hand : (
Cole, Ellie and I have picked up corn for 2 nights in a row. We usually get in about an hour after school, until it gets too dark to see anymore. This was our second pickup load, and there are at least 3 more out there. Oh the joys...................

Matt says he will come out & help you pick up the corn, as long as he could throw them in the truck like he was shooting hoops! :)
What a bummer for you guys. You need to get a bunch of little kids out there that think it would be pretty fun to pick up!
Pretty funny about Ellie & on-star! I'm sure it wasn't that funny to you guys, but it's a great story!!! What did on-star say?
Well, wish we could be there to help you! :)
MEMORIES!!! I'm glad that other families have those crazy joys of farming also! Ellie....priceless! :) I can see ourselves in your shoes in sooo many ways! You made me smile today, and after the election hangover I have, that is a good thing! Hugs to you all.
Ellie should have pushed for help earlier! : )
This was a very interesting story. I have zero experience with farming. Do you keep the corn or throw it all away?
LOL, just "shows to go you!" Thanks for the farm lesson, Rachelle. That's A LOT of work. Glad Ellie's learning how to pick up corn too. She's a good little worker. :~D
Mark should have called us -- we could have pulled him out of the mud. (We have in-depth experience with Nebraska mud, ya know!)
Thanks for your detailed explanation over at Chrysalis. (I think I get it now. :~D) Bless you and your farming family!
the ON STAR thing is hilarious ... sorry you had to work so hard to pick up all the corn ... i so wish we lived in a farm ... my grandparents had a farm and we would go every weekend and just hang around, help bale hay, feed the pigs and cows and just experience a sense of freedom ... blessings ..
